Is there a new Sonic game in 2024? Yes there is, and you only have a few months to go until the new Sonic game releases – both of them. 2024 looks to be a good year for the hedgehog, and it’s especially a great time to be a fan of Shadow the Hedgehog. Oh, how it’s been too long since he had some time in the limelight. Luckily, the next Sonic game features him quite heavily. Then, the title after that represents a first for the series.
Beyond Sonic and co, you might want to know if there’s a new Harry Potter game, a new Pokémon game, a new Star Wars game, or a new Zelda game due to arrive in 2024. We can even look at the likelihood of Elden Ring Switch and Resident Evil 4 Remake Switch ports, though you probably shouldn’t hold your breath for those.
Upcoming Sonic Games Overview
Yes, there’s a new Sonic game due out in 2024 – two of them! I, for one, can’t wait to dive into Sonic x Shadow Generations. As the name gives away, it’s a remaster of Sonic Generations, a 2011 platform game for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Nintendo 3DS. You will get to tackle iconic 2D and 3D stages, bringing retro Sonic and modern Sonic together in one bundle.
While Sonic x Shadow Generations lovingly recreates the glory of Sonic Generations, you probably want to know what Shadow has to do with it. Well, in a similar vein to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, Shadow gets his own campaign – a brand new story for fans to sink their teeth into. Naturally, you can expect his stages to be a bit more gritty, just like in his very own 2005 videogame, Shadow the Hedgehog.
Platforms for the New Sonic Games
Nintendo Switch players can rest easy knowing that Sonic’s next adventure is coming to the hybrid console. It’s also heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, so all fans worldwide can enjoy the upcoming game. Well, nearly all fans. Mobile gamers are going to have to sit this one out, but at least iOS and Android users have Sonic Rumble to look forward to.
What to Expect from Sonic x Shadow Generations
Sonic x Shadow Generations is a platformer in which you get to revisit some of the most iconic levels from Sonic’s history. The classic Sonic runs through recognizable stages from the 1990s, including Green Hill and Chemical Plant. As for modern Sonic, you move into the realms of 3D, dashing through levels such as Rooftop Run and Planet Wisp.
We know very little in regards to Shadow’s campaign, but we do know that it’s a brand new story and given the nature of the character we’d wager that it’s a bit darker than your average Sonic narrative. From the trailer, we can deduce that his stages are 3D with a considerably darker tone, though it’s clear that everything that makes a Sonic game so special is still present.
Introducing Sonic Rumble
Sonic Rumble, meanwhile, is a party game that allows you to play with up to 32 other players competing in various game modes. You get to play as your favorite Sonic characters and even visit some of your favorite stages from the franchise’s history. It seems Sonic is ready to compete with the Italian plumber once more; forget Mario Party games. It’s time to enjoy Sonic’s first-ever party game!
