Jing Yuan is a five-star lightning character who treads the path of Erudition. He’s a strong multi-target DPS with great crowd control and utility. And, with the addition of his powerful friend the Lightning Lord, he can even deal some nasty follow-up attacks between his turns.

Jing Yuan’s best light cone is his signature five-star, Before Dawn. His best relic set is The Ashblazing Grand Duke, teamed up with the planar ornament set Firmament Frontline: Glamoth. When picking relics for him, we recommend prioritizing crit, lightning damage bonus, attack, and energy regen.
When leveling up his skills, you should prioritize his talent, then his skill, followed by his ultimate, then his basic attack. In terms of traces, you should prioritize upgrading War Marshell (A6), followed by Battalia Crush (A2), and Savant Providence (A4).
How to use Jing Yuan
Jing Yuan shines the brightest in multi-target situations where he’s facing large groups of enemies and benefits from a strong buffer that can boost his already high damage even further.
The most important part of his kit is ensuring that you build up as many stacks as possible before his Lightning Lord attack triggers. This means that you should always aim to keep a skill point aside, so you can use his skill each turn, and you should use his ultimate as frequently as possible, as both of these gather stacks for him.
This mechanic also makes Honkai Star Rail’s Bronya a very valuable asset for him, as she can provide him with an additional move each turn. With Bronya’s help, you can have your Jing Yuan perform to skills and one ultimate per turn, acquiring max stacks for his next Lightning Lord and dealing heaps of damage.
What’s the best light cone for Jing Yuan?
Jing Yuan’s five-star light cone set, Before Dawn, is tailored to his kit. It amplifies his follow-up attacks, while also boosting both his ultimate damage and crit damage, making it an extremely powerful choice.
If you’re looking for a good alternate, be sure to equip him with a light cone that also aligns with the path of the Erudition in order to activate its skill. We recommend Geniuses’ Repose as the best four-star option. It boosts both his attack and his crit, and is an especially strong option at S5.
Alternatively, the Birth of the Self is another great four-star option for Jing Yuan. It offers a decent boost to his follow-up attacks at its base, and enhances them even further when he hits low-HP enemies.
If you’re looking for a three-star light cone for Jing Yuan, we recommend Data Bank or Sagacity. Neither are particularly strong, but they give him a decent boost to his ultimate damage while you wait to get something a little stronger.
